Eco-friendly Natural Zero Waste Toothpaste

Our zero waste toothpaste is finally available for you to enjoy in a select few bulk buy stores around the Philippines!

It’s been 6 long months of hard work, formula adjustments, meetings and all the other bits in between. But it has all paid off with a product we are extremely proud of and excited to share with the world. Our toothpaste was sourced and created in the Philippines with most of it’s ingredients deriving from the islands themselves. We have a few select stores around the country where you can get your hands on our refillable, zero waste, natural and vegan toothpaste! (Scroll to the bottom of the page to see where…)

It’s important for us to be completely transparent with our customers and so we have created this blog post so you can get up close and personal with the ingredients used in the paste.

See for yourself why we have carefully picked each of these elements and what benefits they have for your dental and oral health.

There are 9 ingredients in our toothpaste chosen specifically for their added benefit to teeth and gums:

Kaolin Clay

With just the right abrasiveness to give a gentle clean, it removes plaque and polishes your teeth at the same time! This clay has the highest cleaning efficiency and pulls impurities, promoting optimum oral health.

Clays are amazing for detoxification. From the Earth itself, it is packed with many beneficial and vital minerals, it also draws out toxins and impurities making it a perfect addition to our natural toothpaste.

Bentonite Clay

A form of volcanic ash with an nifty electrical charge that when wet, expands and absorbs huge amounts of toxins. It naturally contains silica, calcium and, magnesium, remineralising your teeth. And it’s also excellent at neutralising bad bacteria.

One of the main problems we face with our dental health is dental erosion or “acid attacks” on our teeth. Every time we eat or drink, the bacteria in our mouth uses the sugars from what we consume to produce plaque which ferments the food and produces acid.

When our teeth are exposed to this acid for too long it causes tooth decay. The next two ingredients on our list were included into our toothpaste to help prevent tooth decay and enamel erosion. Both of which are natural and plant based!

Xanthan Gum

A common thickening agent, xanthan gum forms a protective barrier over teeth, blocking acid attacks from foods and shielding them from decay and reducing enamel loss.

As well as protecting from tooth decay, our next ingredient also helps to repair lost tooth enamel believe it or not!

A natural sweetener derived from the fibrous parts of plants that does not break down like sugar. It neutralises pH in the mouth, preventing bacteria from sticking to the teeth and protecting them from tooth decay. When mixed into saliva, Xylitol can actually help to repair (yes!) damaged enamel!

96% of our toothpaste is sourced from the Philippines.

Our next ingredient though is all the way from the Himalaya mountains of India. We chose to include it because of it’s amazing benefits!

Himalayan Pink Salt

This rosy rock salt is not only pretty but packs a health punch for teeth and gums! It helps to build a neutral pH flora, eliminate bad breath, combat bleeding gums and reduces tartar from between the teeth.

You will find this next ingredient in some mainstream toothpastes and a lot of homemade toothpaste recipes too!

Baking Soda

Fights bad breath by rebalancing oral ph levels, prevents the formation of plaque build up on your teeth and acts as a natural whitening agent.

Next we have the worlds most favourite oil, can you guess? Yep. You’re right!

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO)

*Pours on life* Coconut oil benefits are endless in so many different ways including our oral health. Because of it’s antibacterial and pulling properties VCO can help to reduce harmful bacteria, bad breath, plaque, and inflammation. What CAN’T coconut oil do?!

Our active ingredient is an enzyme found in papaya and pineapple

This enzyme extracted from the raw fruit of the papaya plant can help break down stains on the surface of teeth without harmful, abrasive effects to the enamel.

There are many flavours to choose from for toothpaste, and we plan to make many more as our line grows. But for our first release we decided to keep it traditional. Besides, the benefits that this essential oil has for your teeth and gums are quite amazing!

Peppermint Essential Oil

This essential oil is extremely effective at killing anaerobic bacteria, the type of bacteria that thrive in a low oxygen environment such as the mouth, and can cause gum disease.

These are the natural ingredients of our zero waste toothpaste. Each one gifting it’s incredible benefits for your teeth and gums.

As we mentioned at the beginning of this blog post, we want to be totally transparent with you when it comes to what’s inside our toothpaste. You will find in most mainstream toothpastes chemicals included such as SLS or other additives that have absolutely no benefit for your oral health. This is why we wanted to keep ours as natural as possible.

Potassium Sorbate

This salt of sorbic acid acts as a preservative in foods, drinks, dietary supplements, personal care products, and cosmetics. It comes in two forms:

  1. A naturally occurring organic compound found in certain fruits like the berries of the mountain ash tree
  2. or can be nature identical. This means it is chemically the same as the version found in nature, but is synthetic.

Commercially available potassium sorbate is mostly of the nature identical kind.

So what does it do and is it safe?

It prevents the growth of moulds and yeasts and from the years of research that has been carried out on it since the 40s it has been deemed safe, non-sensitising and non-irritating when used in the right dilutions and nearly the same toxicity as table salt.

So all in all, pretty good right?!
